Most people will never see an application that has lubrication problems due to radiation (except for Nuclear Power Plants). But radiation is also used in many industries for sterilization. Cobalt 60 and E-Beam are commonly used to sterilize health care and surgical products, cosmetics, spices, fruit & vegetables, and many other products that are made safe from bacteria and insect infestation by safe, controlled exposure to radiation.

The problem is that grease or oils used to lubricate the conveyor systems in these facilities cannot stand up to the environment because liquids vaporize off in radiation.
